Friends of the Wounded Veterans was founded for the purpose of honoring and charitably serving the Veterans who have been wounded in combat and there families; by collecting and delivering donations, as well as providing entertainment and activities.
Once a wounded soldier is stabilized, they are sent back to the states to begin their recovery. This can be a long, grueling and often boring recovery period for the soldier. The Friends of the Wounded Veterans visits these soldiers and hosts events for the wounded veterans and visiting family members to help break up the routine and improve morale.
Our Neighbors Child (ONC) is a non-profit, community-based organization, which started out in 1992 by providing holiday gifts for children in low income families in western Fairfax County. Over the years, as western Fairfax has grown, Our Neighbor's Child has grown as well; what began as an endeavor of a few friends helping several dozen children has grown to a network of more than 400 community volunteers that SERVED OVER 2300 CHILDREN IN THE CENTREVILLE, CHANTILLY, CLIFTON AND FAIRFAX AREAS IN 2010.
Prior to ONCs involvement, local churches had organized through Western Fairfax Christian Ministries (WFCM) to assist these families with food baskets for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, but resources for providing gifts for the children of these families were limited.
